husband and wife say "I do" at the altar on wedding dayI know, I know, Valentine’s Day is a silly made-up holiday that causes heartbreak by excluding certain groups of people…but I can’t help but be so thankful for the AMAZING day I had with my very special Mr. Valentine. J.P. went out of his way this year to make me feel loved. He showered me with presents: red roses, a pink iPod shuffle with the words “For my true love Hawlie” engraved on the back, along with a beautful heart necklace he picked out while working in New York. J.P. also recieved a few gifts himself- a wrinkle-free dress shirt for all of his work traveling, a cozy sweater to keep him warm back East, and a yoga mat (in black to make it more manly) so we can continue our yoga practice, which he enjoys so very much.

But the way we spent the day is what we will cherish about our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple. We slept in, then made breakfast together- eggs, bacon, and strawberry belgian waffles. Then we watched “The Hurt Locker” (not exactly Valentinesey, but we want to see as many Academy Award nominated films as possible before the big day next month). After all that eating and relaxing, we decided to get active, and enjoyed a nice long hike at Runyon Canyon. The weather was perfect and we felt rejuvenated! For dinner, we cracked open and bottle of wine we got back in November at the Cline vineyards in Sonoma, and we made dinner together: steaks and asparagus on the grill, with delicious brown basmati rice. Such a simple day- yet that’s what made it beautiful. I love my life with my husband!

  1. Sounds like a perfect day! I miss those crazy romantic fun times…now it is much different with a toddler. Fun but very different. Enjoy these amazing times and you totally deserve it, especially with your husband being gone so much now. (I know about that too- my husband is gone for 2 1/2 months every summer for work)

Glad you had such a great day!
