livestrong woman drinking water with Towel over shoulder battle bloatWho’s still feeling like a big giant oompa-loompa after last week’s turkey day feast? ME, ME, Me, me me!!! Whether you want to admit it, or not, I know there are lots more you out there, which is why I was relieved to see livestrong.com’s 4-step solution to battling the bloat, in my inbox this morning. Much to my delight, none of these solutions involve exhausting cardio workouts or prescription diuretics! Here’s the how-to, in a nutshell:

water being poured into a glassStep 1

Drink more water. Duh. Bloating happens when your body stores water, because it thinks it’s being starved of it. When you drink more water, your body releases the reserves. Bonus: drinking water also burns calories!!

salt shaker spilling on the surfaceStep 2

Quit eating salt. All that gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole….talk about sodium-city! Livestrong says salt attracts water, which is why you bloat. They recommend taking a break from processed stuff, and eat some natural, whole foods instead.
fiber foods battle bloat fruits vegetablesStep 3

Eat more fiber. Slowly. Fiber also attracts water, but Livestrong explains that it also carries it out of your body. Fresh fruits and veggies are particularly great options, because they already have lots of water in them (review step 1).
leeksStep 4

Also, eat some natural diuretic foods. Cabbages, leeks, parsley, melons- all are great examples, and they’re a lot tastier and healthier than the prescription variety. Livestrong says the secret slimming staple for French women (known for being skinny minnies) is French foodie Mireille Guiliano’s “Magical Leek Soup.”
