Chic Halloween Costume GlovesTricks and treats were deliciously fun childsplay, and all-night BOOzefests used to be killer. But just because we’ve vowed ’til death do us part, doesn’t mean we can’t partake some goulish festivities ourselves. Take a peek at some frightfully chic party ideas designed specifically for grown-ups.

This year, Pier 1 Imports can be your one-stop-shop for either a cocktail or dinner party…or better yet, maybe both!

Nightcap on Elm StreetIf you want to keep it casual, a Halloween cocktail party is just the ticket.

Step #1:

Abandon all sense of propriety

Step #2: Cocktails
This is no time to serve demure little glasses of chardonnay – not unless you’ve dropped a plastic spider or worm in first. There are some fun and tasty Halloween vintages out there: Vampire wines, Poizin from Armida Winery and Ghostly White from Elk Creek Vineyards, to name a few. In the mixed drink (aka cocktail) department, keep the creepiness factor going with a green witch’s brew served up in martini glasses – and don’t spare the fake eyeballs and doll-arm swizzle sticks. Appletini’s or melon liqueur & vodka work well; if you’re daring, show off with real absinthe Green Fairies louched in clear reservoir glasses or wide-mouthed goblets.

For designated drivers and other guests who prefer nonspirited refreshment, virgin Bloody Marys or blood-red fruit punch served from a bowl packed in steamy dry ice make good party-drink alternatives. (Never allow dry ice to come in contact with skin, and be sure no pieces get into anyone’s drink. Remember the old tongue-on-the-freezer trick.) You can also place dry ice in metal tubs of water in the entryway to create a foggy, underworld welcome to guests as they arrive. See how-to at

Vampire Dinner PartyReady to sink your teeth into a full-fledged sit-down dinner?

Vampire Halloween dinner partyStep #1: Schedule your spread for Sunday, October 31st (Halloween)
Or, if that doesn’t work, consider feasting on the equally creepy eve of the full moon: Saturday, October 23rd.

Step #2: The Table
Black & white, orange and blood red is the traditional color scheme of the damned, so set the stage accordingly. Start with red or gold placemats and table runner with coordinating napkins and glittering gold cluster rings. Graphic animal-print dinnerware creates a fierce presentation and will have vampires’ mouths watering, while amber crackle-glass stemware brings a gothic, old-world touch to the table. For your centerpiece, fill a tall vase with glittered willow branches surrounded by votives and festive Halloween confetti. Blood-red apples with nametags skewered on the stems serve as placeholders, while sleek black leather chairs complete the decadent look.
