Happy Friday, Fab Housewives! This week has been all about focus, accomplishment, and enjoying individual moments, for me. I started it all off more organized than I’ve been in a long time, honed in on my tasks for Monday, and got everything completed ahead of schedule. It was the perfect launching pad into the rest of my week, and allowed me to really savor all the unexpected joys that popped up as the days went by. Here are some of the hightlights…

A morning walk to the Farmer’s Market with the hubs and little Belle meant we got to enjoy the gorgeous, spring-like weather in January. L.A.’s warm sunshine, green trees, fresh blossoms, and locally-grown veggies year-round definitely makes up for the lack of white at Christmastime. I felt so relaxed and fortunate to share that special morning with my little family.

While at the Farmer’s Market, I picked up some fresh kale to make kale chips, one of our favorite healthy snacks. Word of warning, however, organic farmer’s market kale is covered in bugs and larvae, and since kale leaves are so curly, those pests can hide easily. Be prepared for lots of extra work. Triple, and even quadruple washings will be necessary. Next time, I’ll probably just get my kale from the grocery store. Nonetheless, my chips were a delicious little treat! They’re best when sprinkled (very lightly) with seasoning salt. I also prefer my edges a little brown. Extra crunch, fabulous flavor! Oh, and if you have any leftover, you can also use it to make a kale salad.

Lately, when the hubs surprises me with flowers, he’s been opting for plants instead of blooms. I just love the Bromeliad he chose this week! It’s pink and flower-like, and very easy to care for. All it needs is filtered sunlight a little water, on occasion. Potted houseplants are great because they naturally keep the air fresh and free of pollutants.

I am really really in love with my favorite new sports bra from Lululemon. It’s super supportive, and I especially love the design. This particular bra is sold out, but Lululemon always has the cutest, most flattering styles, which actually helps motivate me to work out. I’m now obsessing over the Arise bra in pink. Maybe cupid will bring me one this Valentine’s Day…
And last, but definitely not least, I finally made time to get my hair colored and cut. I haven’t been able to fit it in since November, which means my roots and ends were bordering on disgusting. I’m surprised my colorist Anush even remembered my name, it’s been so long.

The truth is, our jobs as wives and mommies and maids and cooks and dog walkers are endless, which is why it’s so important for Fab Housewives to carve out that “me” time. P.S. I relished every moment of my conditioning scalp massage. Every. Single. Moment.

I came here looking for a recipe and was horrified by your website. I just have to tell you, if this is what all of my years of fighting for women’s rights and equality with men has come to…then God help us. Someone thinks that getting highlights is the highlight of their week!? You’ve managed to stay you? Even after saying “I do?” This blog sets women back a hundred years.
Hi Mary,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I feel it’s an interesting topic you’ve brought up, and quite honestly, it’s the basis for my whole blog. To me, women’s lib is about empowering women to do what they want, not forcing them to do something they have no passion or drive to do, just to achieve equality with men. If I want to make a pot roast every night and serve it to my husband a 6 o’clock in heels and pearls, I can do that. If I want to be a teacher, a CEO, a news reporter, study Aeroscience, I can do that, too. My blog is about showcasing my passions, the things that inspire and motivate me, in the hopes that someone else may be inspired and motivated too. Yes, a highlight of my week was getting highlights. That’s because that was the only time in my whole, busy week, that was 100% about me. I think a major part of staying you even after saying “I do,” is making time for yourself and doing something that makes you happy. Sure, getting highlights didn’t cure cancer or provide homes and food for the homeless, but they did make me feel pretty, refreshed, confident, all of which helps me to be the best possible version of myself that I can be, for myself, and for my family.
