So what do you think of my DIY window box creation? If you didn’t catch the DIY tutorial of how I built the boxes, you can catch up here. Ever since the hubs and I painted and hung our boxes, we’ve been thoroughly enjoying the view, inside and out; especially from the splash of summertime color coming from the bright purple senetti and the coral sunpatiens. This fall I’m thinking of adding pops of yellows and oranges, and maybe some of these for texture.
The formula for my window boxes was created for morning and afternoon sun, with evening shade. My bright seasonal flowers in the center are annuals, meaning they die once the season is over, leaving room for new plants in seasonable color schemes. The jasmine vine and bacopa are perennials, meaning they come back every year (or several times a year when you live in warm, sunny CA). I picked lush green plants with neutral, white flowers so they’re always color-appropriate, no matter the season or holiday.
I also included stakes in the back corners of the window boxes, connected by 4 strings of wire for the jasmine vine to wind itself around. Eventually, the hope is that the jasmine will create a screen of sorts along the back side of the window box, providing the added privacy I’m looking for.
The boxes have a little filling out to do still, but I am loving how they’re progressing. What do you think?
